Challenge: Wheels (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Nikon D100
Location: Motor City

This wheel is the Uniroyal wheel located along the highway in Detroit, Michigan. It was constructed from a giant Ferris wheel used at the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair. The illusion is provided by my wholly unenthusiastic teenager who was about four feet from me with the wheel about fifty feet further in the background.

An f11 aperture gave me sufficient depth of field to make the illusion work, but the focus was mostly at the wheel and his hands are slightly blurred.

Cropped out the bottom of the photo, resized, adjusted the levels, and sharpened slightly.

Is that the wheel along the highway in Detroit? Good job of positioning the model so that the action looks real.

Points for a really big wheel. You did a great job of placing the person to make it look like he is pushing on the wheel, this adds a lot to the photo I think. The sky is perfect for this photo. Very well done.

Corny, but It's nothing like an Escher. After the challenge, I think this would look really neat if you cloned out the fence

Very good use of perspective to creat an illusion!

Cute. Fence is very distracting though. Maybe you could have gotten a small box or stepping stool or something to stand on, thereby putting you a bit higher and the fence lower where it could be cropped out. Just a thought. Still a good job.

uniroyal ad. Have you been recently visiting the leaning Pisa tower ?

The sky performed very nice for you. The idea is also good, but it is overexposed especially the skin. Composition is good with that big wheel coming in from the upper right.

I thjink the picture would have looked better if you would have skipped the guy, I think the lightning looks good and the pov and the sky looks great, but it looks kinda like a snapshot when you put a man in there it looks more like it belongs in a family album with him trying to pull the wheel, know what I mean? plus he is a little too overexposured other than that good job - 6

The red sweat shirt works very well with the blue sky. Good idea.

I think leaving or cropping out the chain-link fence would of boosted the score for this shot. The red/black/blue are all good to look at.

does not resemble a work by escher at all (to me). nice perspective, but the fence looks ot of place. perhaps a better 'costume' for the person would help some too. neat pic.

Really crisp shot. Very unique. My only suggestion would have been to somehow shoot it and crop it so the fence didn't show. When this started to download on my screen I was instantly impressed by the sharpness of the wheel and the sky. - 9.
