you'll just have to trust me that there is nothing in those dark areas that you want to see. :) Thanks for a great response to this.

I love the composition and motion blur here! Neat!

The word that keeps coming to mind here is "frantic"; on one level I can see it as a child playing with shadows, and on another level this expresses something more sinister.

Me too, proud to be adjacent neighbors in this challenge. But I think yours rates much better than mine. I guess we were a bit liberal on the interpretation of the challenge details (again) ;-)

Greetings from the critique club :)

Well this is just freaky, third time I get assigned to one of your images... :P

First off, I have told you like your b/w processing style and this is no exception, great tones and all that stuff so got nothing more to say on that subject.

Secondly, I think you nailed the neccesary shutterspeed, the movement of the arm is dead on while the other one i still so I would not have wanted to see it any other way regarding the camera settings. Composition and framing by the black areas around the child are pretty good, I might think they are just a tad too much on either side but still, nothing that is bothering me, if you cropped off maybe 3-5% off both left and right side I think this image would appeal more to me personally, but that´s just me.

I kindof get the low score though, even though I don´t agree with it, would have wanted to see this score about a full point higher or just shy of 6. I mean it meets the challenge but maybe people who voted didn´t think the image was about the shadow and wanted images more in the style of the blue and red ribbon winners and thought you just selected any photo wich had a shadow in it and posted in the challenge, you know how anal some DPC voters can be about such things.

I would have given this a 6, I kindof like it but still, you know me, I want something more to pop off the screen when I look at a photo and while this is good, it doesn´t really interest me fully, I would have wanted to see a scalvert version of this idea, I hope you get what I mean.

Anyway, keep up your style, I know you don´t care about scores and frankly, I have stopped caring much either... :)

Kind regards from Iceland, Lárus.

Don, very nice one. Boy, you guys are preaching the blur lesson to the masses. And I think they're hearing you too!!!

FANtastic! There seems to be a scary story in this photo. I love the mystery of it. It wouldn't be nearly as effective if it was a grown person. The child gives it such a great feel of wanting to make sure he is okay :)

Love that you have the one hand sharp and in focus and the other all blurred as if to imply he is ready to sneak thru the wall. This is one of those subtle ones that doesn't get enough viewing time during a challenge.

What a great shot with just the child's hand in focus. Clawing the walls? Finding his way? I'm not too crazy about the door -- it's a little too straightforward in an otherwise ambivalent situation.

seen this a few times now, still nothing to say besides I the fact I keep coming back to it.
oh and you have an extention on your purple patch. (what does that actually mean by the way?)

love it... half human/half shadow person

The blocky nature of it made by the dark walls, carpet, door pattern, but especially the heavy shadow on the near wall would have made this for me, but the kinetic little shadowy guy clambering around the only lit wall, casting irregularity over everthing with his blurriness and shadow, is really quite stirring.

Wonderfully artistic black and white. The little boy searching that wall as if there is a place on it he can pass through.

Most interesting, Don. I really like the OOF nature. Gives the emotive of a blind boy searching. I've been impressed with your work lately.

Really like this one. The boy is almost a shadow in the high contrast setting. Love the composition and light. Actually the subject matter doesn't speak to me, but the visual is very pleasing.

Love the framing and composition. Your timing was excellent. Oh, and I really like the black sides - takes the weight away from the whites - very well done.

absolutely stunning photograph ... i love the different dimension type feeling i get from this ... i can just imagine the child merging and then passing thru that wall .. 4.9355 just goes to show that a very high percentage of the voters really dont have any idea when it comes to artistic images .. :)

Perfect. The mystery of the picture draws you in. An elegant interplay of light and shadow.

Now THAT'S the kind of blur shot that belongs in the blur side challenge. :) But hey, I guessed it'd get a 4.5, and you were fully 10% higher! I like the motion and the main part of the picture, but I'd like it even better without the huge black block on the right.

intresting concept but I feel that the dark areas on the left and right of the frame takes away from the shot.

Love this picture. Though I know it is/was a team-mate. They need to fix this Team thread thing, but alas no vote. Love the movement and shadows! Very emotive.

I like the softness, yet dark somber mood of this one, with the use of blur.....
