Nice effect with the candle. We'll have to compare old book titles sometime.

This is a really cool composition. The glow of the candles would be nice but there is too much ambient light for it to make the kind of effect that candles can have on their subject. Especially this, with the book being Dracula, being lit mostly or completely with candlelight could have given it a more "spooky" atmoshpere.

Nice. The candles seem distracting though =7 syamjonimi

Love this shot, and think it should be in the top three. No, I think it should be number one.

Good subject ... Good composition ...

excellent composition... the red ribbon adds a very nice piece of eye candy to this photo... good work :) = 9 - jmsetzler

Absolutely splendid arrangement here - I love the book, the ribbon and the candles. I think you could have cropped just a shade closer in but it's no biggie. Im afraid the biggie is that you've used a method of shrinking your picture down to 640x480 that has made the lines in your book turn into dashed lines. I'm positive that the original shot wasn't like that. When you resized your picture down you probably used something like bicubic, bilinear or nearest neighbor. You should try using "resample" instead. It gives better results in almost every case. But you might need a small amount of sharpening after you've done it. This is such a great shot I'm still giving you an 8. The light and arrangement are *excellent*. - floyd

the partially hidden candle is a little distracting, but very nice photo nonetheless.

I think if the book were placed off center and both candles shown it would add to the composition.

The candles are good for atmosphere, but I think they're a little close to the side of the frame for such a bright object.

wow, the real mcCoy. The red ribbon is a nice touch. I do see some of the background cloth catching light in several places, but not too critical. nice lighting.

At first I read the title as "1987" and thought, "huh?" Anywya, I really like how the read ribbon provides some great contrast and pulls the viewer into the picture. It does feel a little off-balanced to me, though, because the candles go out of the frame, but there is still space to the right of the book. of course, dracula makes me unbalanced too. :-) karmat

Good setup, though I feel there should be something more to the right of the book.

the red ribbon is an excellent contrast.

crop seems a bit weird - cut off a candle but left extra blank space on the right. i like the choice of books though ;o)

You chopped of the cnadles - great atmosphere, dark and as old as time.. But I can't give it 10 because of those candles - put the candles in and I'd have given the max without thinking about it (8) Great idea, great picture and I'm sorry for being picky...

very old indeed.
08/05/2002 02:36:00 PM
neat idea

great lighting on book and still maintain good exposure on candles.
08/05/2002 02:05:00 PM
Nice photo, but when you resized it, it really screwed up the text and the border on the page.
08/05/2002 03:40:00 AM
nice setup
