Not much work to do here.... This was one of my favorites during the voting. I think the way you used a real picture frame for a frame was a fantastic idea, as opposed to just adding a frame with software. The wood shavings poping out of the picture and over the frame really make this picture for me. Give a real sense of depth, so that I feel like I could reach in and touch it. Exposure, focus, depth of field, contrast, color saturation, this one has it all. Excellent job of lighting, shadows were well controlled so as to add texture, but not compete or obscure. This photo is an example of how it should be done.

Congrats Franziska! I thought this might be yours... The frame looked familiar, but the color was wrong. Still, I thought you may have used a different one, or maybe you just painted it!

This is actually a very simple photo ... I took a picture frame (w/out the glass) and a lot of pencil shavings. Arrange the shavings within the frame and on top of the frame. Take picture, crop, do the usual post-level adjustments. I've used this technique before for the kitchen art challenge (with pasta and a differently colored frame). The idea comes originally from someone else (don't know who) who submitted a picture using this technique and a scanner to create something similar.
Btw, please feel free to copy this if you'd like, after all, I copied it too! ;)

You deserved this one. I think it deserved first place, because of its photographic qualities, but particularly the creativity aspect.

Franziska - Love the idea with the frame. This was one of my fav's. Reminded me a little of KarenB's picture of the cougar stepping out of the frame. great work and congrats on a ribbon! - Bob

This is such a wonderful photo, so easy to look at, and the lighting is great. The shapes are very interesting to look at and I also like the way two of the shavings come out over the frame. Focus is right on too!

Wow! This must have taken some setting up! I rekon it would have looked better without the pencil tips underneath the shavings, but that's just me. Fantastic!

I love this one! Very creative idea using a picture frame to frame the photo! I love the shavings extending over onto the picture frame, that adds a lot to the photo. The clarity of this photo is wonderful. If I could vote, I would definitely give you a 9 or 10.

I really like this "3D" composition, its very clever! Nice bight colours too, maybe a bit too bright, but on second thought..nah. I like the crowding too, it works well for the shot. Great idea!
