Shot across the street on an old property I now have access to for photo shoots. Old buildings and 100 acres of bush and runways and yes even an old sugar shack with this, an old seed tumbler, inside.
Basically a box made mostly of wire mesh on a 2x2 ft frame, designed to shake loose seeds from pinecones (going by the 3 buckets of cones I had to remove first), I could immediately see uses like this for it. Like LEDs, some loose, some tethered with varying lengths of baler twine and some strapped to small pinecones, being jumbled around in the tumbler like lightning seeds.
Originally I was hoping that, with all the promising forecasts of evening thunderstorms, that there would be some REAL lightning visible through the window (which is blocked out here by the tumbler)...but no. Three nights running I left the LEDs in the tumbler and the tripod's position marked on the floor with pinecones and headed over with the remaining gear...but no. No real bolts of lightning made an appearance, which was vastly disappointing.
However I did get this shot on the first night and am quite happy with it, so I can't complain.
Camera on tripod, flash up on rear. I left the hatch open on the side closest to me so I would be partly illuminated by the tumbling LEDs (blue and white). Tried to make sure I dropped from view before the 10 seconds was up so I wouldn't be caught in the flesh and looking too corporeal.
pp: shot RAW, altered exposure, straighten, crop, brightness/contrast, minor dodging around my eye, resize, sharpen, save for web. |
