Let's try something different shall we? This came about in July's overlay/layer group.

"We should do a monthly challenge dealing with shooting through various things sometime...like TtV of another camera, different kinds of glass, plastic bags, cellophane, you name it. All would be legal in advanced editing...not particularly DPC friendly, but cool none the less."

TtV = through the viewfinder if you're curious.

Put something in front of your lens and shoot through it. Put you subject in something and take a picture. The object is to do get something between your subject and lens that will in a sense create an overlay or filter effect in camera.

Don't feel you have to post something every day. Take your time and experiment, experiment, experiment. It would also be somewhat prudent for everyone to talk about what they've done. Lets all have fun and learn something too. Got questions? Ask them.

Who's game?

Put a pinhole in that lens cap and yeah, that would count. Not sure if you'd want to put a hole through your thumb though...

Oooooh. . .this sounds fun. This will be a new thing for me, but its a technique I've always wanted to experiment with. I'm sure I won't be able to come up with something every day, but I'll work hard at it.

Count me in too, okay? Good idea!!

I've never done a side challenge, but I wanna try it! Count me in!

I don't know if i can come up with something new everyday. Also, can I just upload the pics on flickr and post them here?

I've already been experimenting...not as easy to control or predict as I thought it might be. Did get something interesting just by breathing on the lens. Can anyone find some inspiration? [eta] When I try to google the subject I get photographs of unusual subjects, but I can't find anything on shooting through a transparent or translucent object. If I google "shooting through glass" I get news stories of assassination attempts. I've tried this before & been frustrated in my attempt to find any photography that is not aspiring to technical perfection. [eta] wow but if I google "through a broken lens" I get strange things. Nothing useful. But strange.

Well it's better if you upload them here, then link the thumbnail into the thread so we can click on it and see it large here in the DPC format. :~) Welcome aboard.

Here is one image that I did last year for one of the Advanced Editing Challenges...all legal and all in camera....except the colour.

ooo wow, Im intrigued. This looks like fun. I already signed up for flowers so I really doubt I have time for this one too. But I wish could. Can we bump this down to sept? Just kidding!

Shoot your flowers through stuff and post them in both threads.

I've been practicing. Thanks for a lovely example. It's a bit of a challenge & a dare to keep the thing I'm shooting rhru from becoming the subject.

glad this got started. I've never signed up for TWO side-challenges before, but I did this month. With "flowers" and "shoot through" on my agenda it might be an interesting month.

Here's another take on the 'shoot through' idea. this one was a very early entry in DPC:
