All through this challenge, I decided it was a take off on the game
Where in the World is Carmen Miranda only putting the name of Steve Davidson in there instead.

So, sure, lighthearted, because we were all glad he was safe, but still, just where WAS he! He could have been anywhere.

I'm shootin' for the fun of it, predicting a 4.5 at best, and not caring one iota about it! Hah!!!

Well, eat my words. I came up with a spiffy steve search shot today, and I didn't even use my wonderful steve brush on it, either. We shall see how I fare :-)

I'm alllllllll in.

No steve brush anywhere to be seen. I'm not expecting big things from this one - but it's a fun challenge. Should be approximately by 4th crap score in a row! Yeeehah!

Well I was really hoping for some sort of confirmation on the Steve Brush before now. I am going to attempt to reshoot my shot within the possible parameters and then submit according to what the final ruling is. I have a feeling I am up for way more postprocessing on my reshoot than my original. Should be interesting.

So if Steve gets busy or some such thing and misses 1 picture to vote on do they all get DQ'd? ;)

I'm wondering where the people are who are worrying about creating a brush out of text...
08/22/2006 01:23:02 PM · #86
Less than 11 hours to go and still no answer. I guess I plan on submitting my pic with the Steve Brush considering my initial response from SC was that it was acceptable and the description that Langdon left at the beginning of this thread technically deems it allowable as well. Maybe if I dont come back to my computer all day I can claim ignorance if the decision is thrown the other way. I hope this challenge doesnt bring me my second DQ. Cheers everyone!

Silly me ... I'm posting a plain ol' photograph ... : )

I *think* an answer on the brush issue will be announced soon.
08/22/2006 01:43:12 PM · #88
The "Steve Brush" is illegal until announced otherwise, it is still under discussion. When langdon said brushes of any shape or size, he was assuming brushes could only be solid shapes. For now, using photoshop to fake Steve in your photo comes under clipart or duplicate photos whether you use a brush or just copy paste to put him there.

Letters are solid shapes.

Right?

I'll be sad if people get DQed for this. It still has not been made clear to us yet, even though it's last minute. The clarification (original post in this thread), from langdon no less, was not worded explicitly enough, in my opinion, and to fault us for that is unfair. I can understand making changes at the beginning of the submission period but that's not the case here.

I have always really wanted to support the powers that be - I have a firm belief that site owners and administrators are completely free to make their own rules and I believe we should have respect those rules. But.. I guess I am just really hoping, as this matter is still under discussion, that the brushes - all brushes - will be legal.

I hope this is not taken as too harsh - and please know that I do respect the work of SC and site admins and will respect any decision made.

As bummed as I am right now I agree with this assessment - but mostly with the section in bold.

I am really really glad I checked back in here and read all the way to the end, because I was still under the impression that using a Steve Brush was ok. I figured the "discussion" that followed was the usual trash talking and "how do I do that?" clarification that follows most of these conversations.

I respect the SC making a call, but maybe make another announcement before the voting starts? I was going to be DQ'ed again because I read the origional statement that said brushes were OK and didnt check back in this thread until now.

Edit to add: *sigh* thats a lot of work I just deleted...

I see this quickly turning into the biggest challenge debacle since "say cheese".

Not for me I no enter.

I didn't brush Steve. I masked him and I burned him! But it didn't hurt I promise!

Official Word:

A "Steve brush" is an allowed exception to the rules about added pixels and clipart. All other rules apply. Clipart or compiling images is still not allowed, but if you made a Steve brush, you're allowed to use it!
