....because iPhoto is crap, lol.

My hard drive is getting filled up with pictures and they are scattered everywhere on my computer. I eed a good photo organizing program for the mac...most preferably free or really cheap.

My dad uses Picasa and I like it a lot....but there isn't a Mac version of it, so that's out of the question.

I've tried doing a few searched but can't really come up with anything...

Thanks!

Try gimp if you haven't already. It's open source and can be downloaded for Mac, Linux, or Windows. It's free and has almost the same functionality as PhotoShop.

By far the best (in my opinion) is iView. Extrememly functional and lots of things that you can do with it. I have been using it since it came out and continue to love new things they bring to it and how it can speed up your workflow.
Besides that I I classify all photos in a year folder then a folder of month and a descriptor IE: 04 Son's Birthday.
You can try it out for 21 days from the DOwnload products area.

I just got the iphoto upgrade recently and I don't like it much better than what I had before.

I read that Adobe is soon to release competition for Aperture that is better, allowing you more options for organization.

I'm new to Mac but I've figured (wrong or right) that if you stick to their method or way of organizing files the programs interact well but if you freestyle things get gluey. So the systems stability rests in it's way of organization. I could be wrong.
