Many of you have expressed interest in a weekly thread for Critique Club information. I figured I'd list some basic stats in this thread, and in further weeks will probably give some honorable mentions to great critiques, and my pick for critiquer of the week or something like that.
I also want to give away a gift membership, something I've been wanting to do for awhile now. I'm thinking that what I'll do is incorperate the CC into this somehow by chosing one CC member who has (in my opinion) contributed the most to the CC.
If you are not currently a CC member, you can apply now to get started. Just send either myself, manic or konador an email expressing your interest. Once you're approved, you can start making CC crits. There aren't any requirements, but they prefer that you've been a member for a couple months, and have made 50 or so good comments on the site.
I would like to give this membership away for my birthday which is November 6th, so there's plenty of time. So, starting now, the person who has contributed the most (quality and quantity will both be looked at) to the CC by 11/6 will receive a gift membership for one year from me personally. If you are already a paid member of DPC, then you have the option of renewing your membership for a year, or selecting another member of the CC who you feel deserves it as the recipient. More info to come.
Now, onto the stats...

There are 46 active CC members in the month of September
Since September 14th, 89 Critiques have been given
On the 14th, there were 414 total requests.
There are currently 14 photos which have been selected, but not yet critiqued.

I have printed stats as of September 17, 8:45pm. Anything after this time will count toward winning the Free Gift Membership. Good Luck guys...Critique Away!
If you have any questions, comments etc, please email me. If you are interested in joining CC, you can also email me.

I've been so lame staying active in this.
Thanks for the nudge, and will get back into it - no carrot dangling needed.

I must be one of the 14 that have pulled a photo for critique but have not completed it.
Why I have hesitated on this image is because it was posted in the forums, and thought it gained a pretty thorough review then.
I know it's probably not right but I would prefer not to critique an image where the owner has already asked for input from members in the forum.

I have had that happen, what I usually do is tell them that I saw the other comments after the challenge and there really isn't anything more I can add. Then click post and move on to the next one.

YOU ARE NOT LAME!!! :)

I too have only been able to do critiques once in a while, not often at all but when I have time I do as many as I can. :)

Keep plugging, we can get that number down

Feel free to PM Konador, Manic or myself if you cannot critique a photo and we will reassign one to you. That way, you can move on to other photos in need. I have unassigned that photo (and it has been put back into the list), and you are ready to select a different one. Thanks. :)

Thanks Heather for putting some incentive into being a member of the critique club.

On another point that has been brought up in this thread.

Skipping over images (using one method or another) because it's not an image we want to add a critique for.

I agree that there are images that get alot of feedback during the challenge and post challenge that may not get anything new from a CC critique. However, I feel that it is important for the photographer doing the critique to take what they get and try and put together something that shows how they feel about the image. So what if it's something that has already been mentioned. The critique is of benefit to the critiquer as well as the photographer. If you're not critiquing all that come up you may be missing out on a learning opportunity.

The other side of this issue is that the tick box for requesting a critique is used by most everyone entering a challenge. Yes, the site is for getting feedback etc however we shouldn't just tick the box just because it's there.

I agree with your points. What I did with the image was to put it back into the list so someone else can critique it and reassigned a new photo to keegbow. Fact is, there are just some images where a person cannot critique. While that person cannot critique that photo, it also freezes it so they cannot draw a different photo out of the bin. While I do NOT encourage multiple usage of that feature, I would rather see a photo reassigned than the commenter not critiquing at all because they can't get past that photo.

Oh! One more incentive may be that CC members who have made critiques get critiques. (I however do not check the box ever, to keep the numbers low)

It would be cool if there were a way to click a button and see all the recent CC comments that have been made. Otherwise, there's no way to find a CC critique except by blind chance browsing photos.

Right now, a lot of the photos on the most recent comments page are CC's. That's flippin awesome!

Wow. Awesome!
Just wanted to say a quick thanks also for the emails I've gotten from people interested in joining the CC. Welcome to the CC!
Now, go check out your new little clicky button at Community/Critique Club. :)

You tell me -- I don't go around pushing buttons on websites without knowing ahead of time what I'm committing to ... : )

The one you click on to get a photo to Critique. It's not there for non CC members, so I was just welcoming the new members to their new button.

General, yours should work if you have one that says 'get a photo to critique' or something like that. Try it...you might like it.

Great ideas heather, but remember the queue size will change on challenge rollover nights as old images are removed and new ones added :o)

Heather, I've been lax lately, but it's my intention to restart, I'll do so in a few weeks when my dad is home and recovering. At the moment it's work/ hospital and a few snatched moments catching up on the net between working on some documentation for a client.

When I resume, please don't consider me for the membership prize, which is a wonderful gesture by the way, as I do tend to get into doing critiques again and then drop out for a while, on and off, on and off. I did most in the days before it was automated and since then it's been cyclical. I would rather just do however many I do and not think about whether they are worthy of such a benchmark, just hope they are as useful to recipients as they sometimes are to me, making them.
