I'm all for the 800x image size increase, thanks guys.

Folks are right though it can mean the photo doesn't fit on the screen. I would suggest that folks make full use of the 800 width but should probably stick to something like 600 for the height, any more than that and on a standard 1280*800 monitor an 800 high photo won't fit (some marketting folks are now making wide screen with 768 height)

Just a demo of how a DPC entry appears to the public at the NYPL.

Hey, I read the other debate(s), I just thought this was interesting. I searched the forums for threads on 800 pixels and this is the first thread I saw.

Well I'm sitting here working off of my iPod and none of the images are fitting, can you all please restrict you images to no me than 320px on the longest side?

Thanks a bunch,

Try hitting the F11 key and see if it fits for you then. ;)

With all due respect, this has been debated ad infinitum. Yes, there are small screens out there. As a photography site, we can't limit ourselves because some insist on voting from laptops. Take a good look at what other sites are doing and you'll find that larger photo sizes are the norm.
You can minimize the issue by hitting F11 to go to full-screen mode with your browser. Even on 800px high screens, there might still be a little scrolling with entries that have the maximum height, but it will be minimized. The ultimate answer, of course, is to vote from a machine with a decent sized monitor.

Who gives a friggin flip anymore? It's a done deal and doesn't matter. We're stuck with 800px, scrolling or no scrolling.

However, I would like to know what's happening with the pending watermark site update...

ETA - and Larry, you're such a troublemaker stirring the pot like this! :-P

Sorry, I seem to have no sense of humor this morning. Must by the 5 hours sleep and the wet feet from walking to work in the rain. Anyway, didn't mean to stir up the debate again, I was just struck by how much of a landscape-oriented photo was cut off on a public monitor (whereas on my home laptop, photos still seem small). Thought others might be interested, too.

Ahhh...but don't you know that...

Larry, FWIW, I agree with you. :-)

Well, I'm not sure what you're agreeing with, since I don't think I offered an opinion (at least not in this thread), but I appreciate the support nonetheless! :-D

I was agreeing with that, I guess. Hell, now I don't know either! :-D
