Originally shot for 2012 Photo a Week, as part of my "Underfoot" theme, but held back for my Jan 2012 FS submission.
So belatedly, here it is as Underfoot #5.
During a very cold spell in mid-January each time the high point of the waves on the lake came into contact with these branches the water froze. Gradually layer upon layer of ice built up into these circles, even though the surrounding lake water was not frozen. You see the same effect along the shoreline at times. I found this spot where I could hold the camera out and shoot from above. Flipped horizontally, cropped, processed with Nik SEP to bring out more structure in the ice and water and adjust the brightness in some areas. Used the SEP layer in luminance mode.
