Shot my first wedding (favour for friend) during Jan 2012 with my wife.
They are quite a fun bunch and enjoyed doing unusual things so it made the shoot a little easier and good fun!

They asked what props they could bring for the shoot and the subject of balloons came up - then after a bit of playing around, this scene was suggested and taken up the couple.

Another possible entry was

Editing was 1 RAW image passed through ACR a couple of times and blended manually in PS. Rotate and apply a vignette. Played a bit with curves and masks with Tony Kuiper's Luminosity masks. Resize, sharpen and SFW with prperold's sharpening action on his website.

I expect just under 6... but who knows

Post challenge:
In response to HarveyG... no she was not wearing Black Nike takkies but GUMBOOTS! (Only for the shoot in the field though :-))
More pics to come when the editing is done and bride is happy

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Damn wind, how dare it blow those balloons horizontal - but glad to see it exceeded your expectations, 6.4 is a nice score on which to finish. I was one of your 8s and proudly so.

Hard to nitpick an image like this, but I'll try :-) I would personally have gone for either a more vertical or square crop, I think horizontal limits too much here, you need some visual room for the balloons to rise into. The ambient lighting and is fine for a shot like this, but I might have cranked up the ISO to 200 or more and used f5 or f5.6, as wide open is rarely a lens' best aperture. A lower POV could have helped too, to accentuate his being carried away as here I feel like I'm looking down at them a bit.

Otherwise, very nice shot and good work, keep shooting and entering!

Feel free to PM me,

Susan

Respectable score in a free study sir. It climbed nicely and glad to see it in well above the 6.0 mark. Way to go... what's next... the mountains? February we would have to come up with another made shot unless we both get what we are planning.. :) 21 more days to do so.

Ha! Great take Stephen. Pity about the wind. Love the white takkies. Was she wearing black Nike's? Crisp and clean and fun.

That's very cute, well staged and well captured.
My only remark would be that it could have worked better if the balloons were ascending rather than pulling sideways.

a great idea - i just wish the balloons were 'up' rather than to the side - it would sell the shot better....

very fun shot, I've tried this technique with a balloon and know it's not an easy thing to do

i get the idea, but with the groom going up and the balloons going away to teh side it doesn't really work for me/

Too bad the balloons were not a bit higher strait above the guy. Very nice shot!

Very funny, great image and processing. Could've only been improved by the balloons being upright, but we can't control everything now can we ;) great shot. If this is a real wedding couple, I can imagine they'd love this image!
