This is a wooden model of an Expo 2000 pavillion. I would say that some of the structures are less than a mm thick - it must have been quite some work to put that together.
It's part of an exhibition on architecture in Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.
I don't know the book, I was admittedly just searching for something that seemed fitting.
