Thank you all for the comments and votes. I've never had nearly this many! This shot was taken approx 10 miles outside of Manchester UK. It is light pollution from the city.

I went back and forth with the editing and went with an HDR'd version of the shot. It brought out a lot more stars but sacrificed noise on that part of the shot. This bugs the crap out of me. I am not familiar with noise reduction software yet so that is something to look into.

The green hedge... the biggest issue brought up... The photo was taken in the grounds of my parents place. This is a hedge that I could barely extend my tripod over so I decided to incorporate it into the shot. Believe it or not it is severely toned down. The light on the hedge is from lights on the grounds which are nasty fluorescents which makes the hedge even greener! I liked the contrast and the mixture of color in the shot but the consensus seems to be that it isn't liked too much. I guess the sky should have taken the show? I see that.

Thank you all again for the comments. I'm proud of this shot but see where I can improve.

I don't know how this shows on most monitors but I wonder if I should have bumped the exposure down a notch or two. Might have helped.

This is a great combo. Love seeing the sun on the clouds and all the stars in the sky. Pretty!

Wow....that sky is incredible. I don't think I have ever really seen a sky like this before. Just stunning.

i'm wondering if you've gotten comments saying this is "overdone".
it looks a bit oversaturated on my laptop but when i look at it on my work pc, the saturation doesn't look as bad.

still one of my top scorers. i really like the drama in this one.

I'm not sure about the foreground and the lens distorsion, but the sky is amazing

Looks a little over cooked for my liking, still dramatic nevertheless.

Wild. Great colors and effect.

High visual impact. It's a very interesting image to look at because of the different levels of exposure from the bottom to the top.

Impressive.

Intense sensation of movement and velocity in that sky. It's fabulous you were able to capture the stars so crisply. I'm not sure if the bright green grass in the foreground works, but the sky is drawing all my attentions!

The edit slightly takes over the image and while I don't mind the sky the green of the plantation in the foreground is distracting.

Mind boggling! How did you get the clouds to move out of the way to reveal the stars so brightly!

02/10/2012 07:11:54 PM
wow, that's an impressive sky
02/10/2012 09:15:42 AM
Nice use of the ambient light from what I assume is a city. However, the light on the grass/vegetation in the foreground is a bit too strong for my taste, having that part so strongly lit and color saturated just takes the attention away from that awesome sky, but good shot, gave a 7.

Ok this concept and set up is seriously good! Few minor points:
Bit too much noise - but I understand it is there because of how you had to capture it - run some denoise on it.
The FG looks like it was lit up with direct light from a torch - maybe bounce the light onto it to make it softer.
There is a small white spec on the horizon - a little distracting.
Generally an amazing shot - I like this lots. Hope it does well!
