 As an airworthiness compliance auditor the only science I can really relate to is that of aeronautics. I was on location in Melbourne at an aircraft maintenance facility wondering what shot I could get to portray this. Sitting in my hotel room I noticed a murder of crows gathering on the roof and saw a plane taking off in the background through them. The light was fading but I new another plane should take off again soon so I grabbed my camera. It suddenly occurred to me that showing an aircraft designed by humans against that from nature that inspired its creation would be wonderful. Unfortunately, all but one bird left when the next plane arrived and it wasn’t really well positioned to get a reasonable composition.

I figured I lost that opportunity and decided to shoot (some I’m quite happy with) shots of the crows flying about. I then noticed some of the crows had again gathered on the roof and waited another 15 mins poised at the window and got this shot.

Now, I’m really happy with this and feel it should score well, even in the sixes, but I know it’s that the sort of shot that will not appeal to the masses and will also not compare well to the expected clean and detailed produced shots that will be entered. I will be disappointed if it is treated as a shoe horn as aeronautics is a legitimate science and I took this shot purely with the challenge in mind. However, if it fails like my last few entries have it just maybe the fact that I just suck at photography.
