A very good friend asked me to photograph his father's vigil service. He said he wanted to celebrate his father's life and nothing was off limits.

These are his 3 youngest daughters (they have 7 kids). I noticed them milling around the casket. I really wanted to capture them trying to absorb what is means to lose their grandfather. This is their first experience in losing someone close to them.

I know it's a bit voyeuristic, but the family loves the image.

Interesting that someone would want photos of that moment, which is somewhat foreign to me. But, in any event, the way you captured it is very fitting. It certainly was the shot in the challenge that most caught my attention.

Now here's a picture you don't see every day. I'm curious as to what made you take this picture. I don't mean that to sound accusatory; it's just that it seems strange for someone to want to capture a child's morbid curiosity as she kinda pokes at her deceased relative. It's interesting that you thought to take a picture of this. I'm also very interested in seeing what everyone else's reaction to this is : )

I am a loss for words on this image. I personally feel this is a highly inappropriate image to enter in a photo challenge. I hope I am not offending you but this is really upsetting. I have chosen not to vote at all since I find this image to be unsuitable for a photo challenge.....I could say more but I will limit my feelings to what I have already stated.

More curious than sad. Kids are like that. Good.

All credit to you for tackling a difficult subject particularly for western culture. Your timing has captured a very tender moment that I'm sure many people would argue should be left to the privacy of the immediate family, assuming they have given their permission for you to do this then it should be treated compassionately as you have done here

Talk about an impact of a shot. This one came up as one of the first to vote on and talk about mood. Very, VERY touching shot and a 10 from me.
