Went out on a 35 mile club ride. 6 miles into the ride, I heard a bark and before I could react, the dog had bitten my ankle. The owner called to it and it backed off. Wasn't deep, but I was concerned about the potential for infection if the dog didn't have it's vaccinations. After the ride, I went to a nearby quickie-med. They gave me a prescription for some antibiotics, and they called the Animal control folks at the county Sheriff's department. I got a call from an officer a few minutes later to confirm the details. About an hour later, he called back to say they had picked up the dog and were keeping it in quarantine for 10 days, as the owner could not show evidence that the dog's shots were current.
In all the years I've been riding, this is the first time I've actually been bitten by a dog. I'm blaming it on the new "Dog Chase" socks I was wearing for the first time this morning. A bit of irony there, perhaps?
