Galena was my Black Cat. And no she did not have an eye gouged out, nor was she hung from a tree, for this challenge. If anything she was waddling around after the shoot from all the treats I gave her during all the shoots we did this afternoon. She's a trooper!
After trying to catch her in a suitable mid-air posture, I gave up and got a cloth. I spread it out on the floor and got her to bat at a favourite toy. The trick was to try and get her stretched out as much as possible to give a distinctive cat form.
Shot handheld while standing on a hassock while dangling the toy over Galena's head. Used Ray's 40D and his 50 mm f1.8.
The main trick was to get the exposure right. Galena is a creamy colour with points and the background was black. So yes I did use invert and desat at some point!
pp: RAW-TIFF ah hell I'm not listing everything I did. Lots of it, is all I can say but only with one capture.

Aww, very disappointed this image didn't do better. But I am afraid some voters thought I had shot a dead cat, or simply didn't know the story well enough to realize that in this scene,it is only the impression of a cat's body upon the wall. Yeah, it's the body of the black cat, but had it made mention of that I would have done the processing differently so Galena would have come out black.
Ah well. That'll learn me to enter expert editing challenges!!

One of my favourites in the challenge. The face is so human-like, it's scary. Thanks. |

marvelous effect. I hope this isn't just a picture of someone else's art. |
