This image is big and serene. Many lighthouse shots seek the dramatic, while this gives a feeling of no storm but peace. For that it says a lot about the photog, and the atypical message conveyed to the viewer. I like the near centered placement of the lighthouse, it adds a stillness. |

either a tighter crop or one that brought the lighthouse to a stronger point would have given this picture more impact |

Oh, this could be a splendid image. Good lighting good definition. Composition is the culprit here (IMO, of course) If you deleted the coastline on the left - and started with the lighthouse, lead towards the building and then the more interesting coastline to the right, and maybe remove some of that not very interesting sky, and some of the water, this could be a strong, fine picture. It would still show the isolation that is so important here and draw attention to the fine architecture and lighting.
Okay, sorry to write a 'book' but this image intrigued me. I hope this is helpful to you.
