I started out with water droplets too, learnt rather quickly that DPC votes them down like crazy :) Especially in a Free Study - I hope you aren't getting hammered.
As an aside, DPC has also seen some extremely quality work in this aspect, so it's hard to match up to that quality to score well. Here's an example of a drop shot that's done well in FS:
