 I happened upon his scene the day before this challenge, so when it was announced and there was another sunny morning, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I got up extra early and took a walk over to the park near my house. The fog is being caused by a small stream behind the tree (see the bridge?) which is much warmer than the 48F air. I have to get here early for two reasons: the sun position and about 15 minutes later the fog will be gone.

I really like pretty much everything about this photo. The position of the sun in the upper left corner. The direction of shadows, including shadows in the fog caused by the branches. The way the soccer goals create extra depth in the photo. The birds on the soccer posts. The bridge in the background. The layers of trees. The natural golden colors. And the way the lens flare goes in the same direction as the shadows. In fact, I think this last point is a key for this challenge. I tried some different angles, but the most powerful were those in which the different pieces of the image flow in the same direction.

I'm actually quite surprised that the lens which is delivering the best lens flare shots is the 100-400L. Being L glass, I expected it to cut down the flare to nearly nothing. While the flare isn't crazy pronounced, the 15-85 actually almost eliminates pretty much all flare. It's amazing what 10 years of R&D can add to even an EF-S lens.

Post processing was very basic for this:
* Increase black point and brightness
* Increase contrast and definition
* Increase saturation and vibrancy
* Levels
* Export as TIFF
* Resize
* Sharpen Edges
* Save as JPEG
