An empty berth at the Valdez Marine Terminal (Valdez, Alaska) during a quiet morning after a snow fall. The terminal is the end of the Trans Alaska Pipeline and is where the Tankers are loaded to transport the oil South. My employer, Alyeska Pipeline Service Co., is the operator of the Pipeline and this Terminal.

Thank you all for your very favorable votes and comments! It looks like one of my biggest mistakes was not making it clear what my specific job was! I work as an Operations Supervisor at this Terminal. My primary responsibility is moving, storing and metering the oil that comes into the Terminal via the pipeline and out of the Terminal on tankers. The options for composition on this shot were limited as the Terminal is built on the side of a mountain and I couldn't get to the ideal spot. I settled for this composition as the best available :-)

Go right, and drop down and the jetty will be framed by the trees a bit better.

A harbor master? Lovely scene.

OMG, you can't work there it looks way too cold!
I like the lights on the water. I would probably have gone with a tighter crop on the pier myself, maybe shot so the trees at the front could be cut out completely.
Still, a nice shot. It looks like you work in a beautiful (if cold) place.

Nice photo. The light is a little harsh on the background but the centering and DOF is good... Good Luck! Cub

I don't care what your job is. All I know is I LOVE THIS PHOTO! It is going in my favorites - as my number 1. Can you guess the score I'm giving? This is an awesome shot of beautiful souroundings. I don't think I've ever seen a photo of any place that is this awesome. I love the lights reflecting in the water and the hint of blue to the whole shot. The snow is beautiful. I would love a murial of this. Way to go . You out did yourself. 20 is your score.

Great photo. Tricky time of the day to shoot, but you got a beautiful exposure. Besides all the technical stuff, it's just a beautiful shot.
