I really learned a lot about different blending modes with this Photoshop tutorial.

The light was very contrasty, so the 'feed me' sign was completely over-exposed. I usually will just do an adjustment layer with a mask, but this time I decided to try different blending modes to correct. I used the 'multiply' mode to fix the over-exposure problem and a bit of a burn.

Blending Modes

Also, this shot is not an original. I just recently saw this image done by edmeng that just put a smile on my face.

Question about the exposure: the white paper was completely over-exposed in the original, and the black fur was completely under exposed. Will submit the original at rollover.

So glad to see a return of this image. I recognized it immediately. The only part I have a hard time with is imagining you taking a bad shot to begin with!!

I'm very interested to see just how underexposed the original was.

Wow, he must be hungry. It looks like he took a bite out of his bowl! Cute shot. Nicely focused on the subject.

So, did you purposely take a duff photo to make it all shiny and nice after? If so, job well done! It’s a characterful quality pet picture; the colours are really rich in complementary shades and hues, the focus is very nicely handled, and the dog’s expression is very, erm, expressive. His handwriting is a bit too neat to be fully convincing, and possibly the question mark is redundant (yes, I know, silly criticisms), but otherwise mildly amusing but more importantly very slickly done. Doesn’t look like a rescued photo at all, which I guess is the point.

My First Weighted Scoring System ™; composition + technical 2.5/3, challenge* 1/1, post processing results 2/2, ooooh factor 2.5/3, originality 1/1 = 9 (* I don’t think it’s possible to not meet the challenge on this one so everyone gets a 1/1)

Fantastic. Straight out of a magazine ad. Those eyes are spot on with their catch lights. Perfect composition and exposure. As an animal lover - especially dogs, this gets a 10 from me.
