A lovely 'portrait' shot. Great composition and a good non-distracting background. I swear it's smiling for the camera!

Very pretty. It looks like a rugged, northern European type of pony. I love that shaggy hair. The black and white could be a touch more contrasty, otherwise, the framing, focus and exposure are all very good.

Nice horse portrait. (It seems to be smiling - mona lisa style) Great focus, nice detail. 8 Swash

well, you are lucky i don't know anything about horses. i suspect from the discussion in the forum that this is a pure bred of some kind and therefore arguably does not fit the challenge. since i don't know this for sure, i'm assuming you did meet the challenge, and will rate your photo accordingly. you did a very good job filling your frame with the subject. converting to b&w worked well, the horse is nicely contrasted against the dark background, although that might have worked just as well in color. overall, pushing the contrast just a bit more would be nice, i think. also some unsharpen mask, the horse isn't quite a crisp as i would personally prefer it.

This is a very nice shot. I really like the angle and framing/cropping you have chosen for this. The use of black and white is great here. Focus and clarity are great as well. The lighting for the most part is great, except for a small hot spot to the left of the photo. A beautiful horse. Good luck in the challenge.

Poor thing looks like it's being swarmed with flies! A nice shot.

Wow..this guy has little ears! LOL Love his expression...nice dof on the background. I think I might like a little more space for his ears and a little less at the bottom. Nice work :)

B&W did not do this horse justice. It is a beautiful photo and horse and should have been in color to contrast his white against the setting. I do like the nice tight crop, brings out the face so beautifully. I also like the softness to the photo - to me it adds at least 2 points. Color would have added 2 more points. The face is so serene, peaceful, and gentle looking. Awesome job. I'd give it a 7 - 9 if in color. PTL

Fantastic composition and I really like how you got all of the horses head in the pic, from ears to nose. Very well done. Great job.

Strange looking horse, if that's what it is indeed. Very retro looking picture. Well done - Inspzil

Beauful horse. I like the soft focus in this photo, it looks like the horse is day dreaming. Great choice of b & w too.

This is a very pretty horse, also a nice capture of it. Technically this is a great photo except for the line coming out of the top left of the head. I also think the picture is maybe a tad light, but thats tough because it's a white horse with black on it. The left side of the body looks a little burnt out, maybe a tad bit too much light there. Now in terms of the challenge, I personally see what you were going for, but I don't think it worked. This is obviously a domestic animal that has been well cared for. It doesn't have any visible whiskers which means it was shaved, and the mane and forelock are shorn pretty short, and the ears are well trimmed. This had to have been done by the hand of man (or woman) and so it does not fit the challenge. I'm giving you a 5 for a beautiful picture, but one that does not seem to fit the challenge.

Nice shot. Love his winter coat. I like the composition and love the b&w.

Sweet shot, one of my favorite subjects. Overall, I like the shot, but don't care for the extremely tight crop, it makes the shot feel a bit crowded to me, I would have liked to see a little "breathing room". I do realize that this may have been unavoidable, and otherwise, l like it. 8

Is this a wild horse?
12/16/2002 01:35:37 AM
I dont think a domesticated animal really fits the challenge, otherwise a nice shot.

Nicely exposed and focused.

Very nice soft look to the horse to go along with the title
