I went ahead, out of curiosity, and copied a version into PS and did some BW messing around, and it turns out some interesting results, but they are a totally different feel from what you got here. They look almost abstract, and are a giant departure from the obvious scene we have here. I'm not really sure if I prefer it one way or the other, since it really depends what sort of a feeling you wanted to cast as to which is "better."
Here's what I mean...
In any case, emphasizing the contrast a bit might have helped this, and differentiated the posts from the water. |

i think the bw suggestion is a good one, or increasing the contrast between the "roots" of the plants and their leading lines, so they stand out from the water more |
