Part of a series of street shots/candids. Took a wrong turn and ended up at Perth's interstate train station, whilst the Indian Pacific was being prepared for departure. Got chatting to this delightful chap, who was preparing for his 30th trans-Australian rail journey on this train. Finally plucked up the courage to ask him if he'd let me take his photo. I'm not sure how this will be received and in all honesty I don't really care. I am happy to have met this elderly gentleman and am pleased with this shot as it is my record of having done so.

Shot with my new 70mm/2.4 'pancake' lens. I'd read a lot about how good this lens can be for portraiture, and after a couple of days with it, I'm inclined to agree. Shot in RAW and then used ACDSee to crop, convert to sepia and make minor adjustments to exposure and contrast. Resized, added border, minor sharpening, saved as JPEG.

I'm giving this a 7 because I think it's a great portrait. But I'm mixed on whether the sepia tone really works in this case. I can't help but wonder how it would look in black and white?
