I did not plan to enter this challenge but it always helps to keep your cameral with you whenever you can. This is about 5m from my backyard and I was already in my car with my family about to leave when we spotted this doe with her fawn. We get these ferrel deer often coming up to our house but rarely during the day. I managed to get the camera out of my bag and grab a couple of shots before my 4 year old came bounding out and scaring them off.

I know there will be some awesome shots in this challenge and there is nothing really special about this that will make it stand out. I had a bit of trouble with the lighting as there were a lot of deep shadows with the bright sunlight breaking through the canopy. I couldn’t help the blown highlights on the leaves in the background but I didn’t want to keep the exposure too low in fear of loosing the fawn and doe’s features. But it was this unusual lighting that made me want to take the shot in the first place. I like the composition but I didn’t quite get the shot I was hoping for. I feel this will probably score in the low five’s if the other shots are all very good or high five’s if there are a lot of entries of not so well done landscapes. I’m hoping of one day getting a shot that is worthy of a top 10 finish but I know this one is not it (no matter how much I like it).

I like the backlight and the wary body language. Tricky light to get a decent overall exposure and decent s/s thus it looks a tad wobbled. I'm on the fence if it would be used or not. Would have to relate to an article I think for it to be considered.
