Not the shot I was going for when I ventured out in the early hours on a winter morning. There are some major road and bridge works happening near here that is usually well lit but not this particular morning. I had limited time on my way to work so I grabbed my long lens and this is at full zoom (200mm) which I don’t feel is the best way to capture night shots. It didn’t help that it was quite windy to get a really clear shot but my manfrotto tripod performed well in the conditions. The wind did help with the smoke effect though.

I’m not particularly happy with this shot and I had hoped to take something better but time has gotten away from me and I feel this is good enough to enter. So I’m not expecting high scoring votes for this but I would be a bit annoyed if people DNMC this image because there is no tripod in the picture. I think some people just look at challenge titles and do not read the details. I feel this is worth 5.5xxx but will only feel disappointed if it finishes in the 4’s.

It's less of sharpness of the buildings, zoom more will give better details imho.

Good nocturne and b&w works well. However, I'd have left out the heavy white letterbox border -- it's too distracting.

Great use of very deep blacks to help make the smoke trails stick out more.

Obvious tripod use: High

Obvious use of a tripod, or any other long-term stabilization tool (1-10): 10
I'm guessing a ~30 sec exposure.
