I'm working on a new series of images with Lensbaby lenses and creative apertures to create painterly images.

I've found that working in more intense lighting conditions than what I normally shoot macro under helps create more interesting effects.

I am shooting scenes both with a focal point in focus and also with the images entirely painterly without an area of focus and love them both so far.

Hi Danitar, welcome to the Critique Zone!

The only thing that I disagree with on this photo is the score. 6+ is certainly a decent score but I think that in a Free Study, this could have gone up to a full point higher. It just doesn't really connect to the challenge except in the name. (You're not alone in this!)

I might have changed one thing - I don't normally comment on borders but I think that with a photo taken to give a paint effect, some sort of framing would probably be beneficial. Other than that, the composition, structure and lighting of this is simply masterly. I personally disagree with the comment asking for something to be perfectly in focus, I don't think that it would work with this effect, it's great just as it is.

I'm sure that we will be seeing more of you, and I look forward to it!

Happy hunting,

way under-rated! striking, beautifully composed, and incredibly creative. I have a renewed appreciation for the lensbaby.

The background was actually created by a creative aperture with the Lensbaby, so that was done in camera. The only editing was curves for contrast, a little brightening and such etc. All editing was done in Lightroom for this image. I love how this particular aperture does create what looks like overlays done in Photoshop. It does, however, have a very shallow depth of field when used with a close-up filter.

Thank you everyone for comments and critiques.

Adding this image on Posthumous Ribbons, Part IV 's thread as underrated.

Nice smooth edit on this. I like what looks like an overlay for the background... I just wish that the one thing in perfect focus was the yellow coming out of the flower.
