I could not get an image with the plug hooked up the the car due to vibration. I tried removing the coil from the car and hooking it up to a battery charger. This made a lot of sparks but in the wrong place. I finally decided to hook the spark plug up to a pizoelectric BBQ igniter for spark. I used the self timer to minimize tripod shake and pushed the BBQ starter about 7 times during the 15 second exposure. I used a small flashlight for a couple of seconds during the exposure to side light the threads. Electrodes lightened and threads darkened in photoshop. Dirt cloned out of ceramic electrode. Spark brightened. Entire image sharpened with unsharpen mask.

O.K.
Now I'm pissed! This should have finished way way higher.
I am disappointed for you.

Way to shoot outside the box. Great detail and nicely cropped. Very good.

Creative with good contrast.

Wow - nice sparks! I like the contract in color between the neon blue of the spark and the dull metal. Thaving your subject against the black helps focus attention on the spark, good. The details look oversharpened or perhaps the resolution is low.

Exceptional macro. Great idea and puloled out exceptionally well. Your lighting perfect to allow the spark to retain its color.

I can see this on the cover of Popular Mechanics, or some such. Excellent technical capture of a technical subject. Great focus and lighting. Hope the spark is real and not photoshopped in. Good job.

Thank you, thank you. After several consecutive insects, a refreshing, and very well done, difference. Beautiful detail. I look forward to seeing the details of how you shot this. 8.
