An 8 or 9 year old Bighorn Ram. This image was captured on Old Fall River Road in RMNP.

I should explain. Bighorn rams like to be at an elevated position. When they have the strategic high ground, they are relaxed and comfortable.

Mostly great comments, except for one very silly, mocking comment. Hoping the person will leave the comment in place for the world to see.

This is a bighorn ram, not a goat. But, I assume the person knows that and was trying to throw out a dig.

When bighorn rams reach the age of full curl of their horns, they lose some peripheral vision. The tips of the horns actually block their vision to the left and right. These grand animals will "broom" the horn tips on the hard ground or rocks to improve the situation.

If you do have an inkling as to image authorship, it's not cool at all to compare a current effort to an image in a portfolio. There is actually a voting rule that prohibits inserting bias (up or down) into your voting based on presumed knowledge of the photog's identity.

Well, it's not a statue. It's a wild animal in the wilderness.

Lots of voting irregularities in this challenge. Very bizarre.

Excellent work Richard. It must take great patience to wait for these moments. Wildlife photography takes some special talents in my book.

My thoughts are this is Richard's image. Only you can capture something so amazing and wonderful like this. Glorious image.

I changed my vote several times on this. However, it is at a 6 now and I think that is were it will finish. I have some more to vote on so I still may change.

I like:

The blurred backgound
The texture on the neck and chest
The focus of the twigs and plants in front of the animal
The eye looking at the camera

Things to work on:

Distracting blurred rock in the foreground
The harsh mid-day lighting
The 1/2 shadow 1/2 light on the face and nose
The SLIGHTLY blown highlights on the animals back
The broken horns

This is a great picture that I'm sure will place high.

I must have lost the first comment. So, again, you got quite a specialty with the rams ( hahn23) but I preferred the Wilderness rendez-vous where you got more of a story. This one has the allure of a statue but needs more cropping to become monumental.
