 I went to one of my favourite waterholes to try and get some bird shots for this challenge. I did get a few on the water, in flight and this portrait that I almost entered instead.



None of the other bird shots I felt benefitted from a square shot. I did see this flower on the waterhole bank and when the wind and rain died down enough I took a couple of shots. The first was at an aperture of f/4 that had a nicer bokeh result of the background but the eye struggled to find a focus point on the flower. This shot with the smaller aperture had a better result for the flower but I hope doesn’t suffer too much with the deeper DoF. Anyway, with about 50 bird shots taken it was the flower shot that I felt (as well as some DPCers who helped with the decision – thanks) benefitted from a square crop.

I thought this may have been some sort of native lily but not being much of a horticulturist I tried to find it on the web. The closest I could find was a Arum Lily which is a weed in Australia hence my title. If someone reads this and knows for sure what flower it is please share.

I don’t really take flower shots but I quite like the way this turned out and I’m hoping for a mid 5’s finish. However, this is almost like a free study which may result in many truly spectacular entries and I may have also missed the point on what constitutes an image worthy of a square crop and may end up with a very low score.

If this is a weed, I cannot imagine the flowers with a pedigree Down Under!
Could compete for the image of an alternate flag of the country!
I always look for pictures with flowers with a story and an intention.
Needs a better title IMO.
