Wonderful comments. Thank you all!

This was taken outside the Granite Building, downtown Pittsburgh. Hence the title, which seemed fitting for reasons beyond that.

I love that her face is turned away. We will never know the emotional world SHE inhabits.

This is interesting. At first glance, you think there is something intimate going on here. Then you see that he's not really all that engaged. How do you get shots like these? Fascinating.

Thanks to Ben for adding this to the PH thread - I meant to post it as well. Very powerful, very real. Very much you, too, by the way.

Paul described my perception perfectly. I didn't vote, enjoying this for the first time. The subtle tilt nails the mood for me, adds weight of despair. Is he being pushed back or is he struggling to get back on track? Fantastic capture Brian; I never quite believed you when you said you toss the good ones before they hit your hard drive, this cements it. You are full of it!

What a title - as cold and uncompromising as your subject. Well spotted!

There is clearly a story here, but I'm not sure what it is. It could be that she is distraught and he is a strong rock that she can lean on in a time of emotional need. Or, it could be that he is unemotional, uncaring, and cannot sympathize any more than a rock. -OR-, it could be that he is just like me and wants to offer his support, but is a dense male and does not know what to do, so he just stands there.

Good street photography and deserving of extra pointage for making me stop to look at it and think about what may be going on.

The overall feel of the shot, including the slight as-shot tilt suggests this could be a bvy entry.

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: Something about this says Pittsburgh to me - I'm not sure why. Perhaps I'm seeing bvy tones and extrapolating from that. There seems to be grief here and the thought of that emotion imbues power in the image.

Critical stuff: I don't like the tilt but I would guess the image is stronger for it.

Overall: Compelling.

Just a very good picture. Absorbing, nicely off-balance (emotionally), happy and sad, simmering with possibilities. Thank you.
