Thanks you all for the kind comments on this image. Im glad it did well enough to be in the top 10, despite my editing mistakes on it. I know what it should look like and could not achieve it, but Im still working on it. I dont like HDR in landscapes where it looks to unnatural. Thanks again to Silent-Shooter for his advise and suggestions. If you dont know him...keep a whatch on this guys profile. He is becoming very competent in the PP side of things and will be on the ribbons shortly.
This was taken in Mweni part of the Drakensberg. Was there for about 7 days and I had so much fun. Three days with my boys. Then they went back with a friend and I stayed on further with a long time friend and hiking partner Christo. He is the only person thus far who still has the patience with my exploring and climbing in the mountains. Frankly he is one of the few people I trust to hike with me.
Unfortunately 7 days was not enough and the more I go to the berg..the more I want to return and there are so many spots I have allocated for return and waiting for the right light. Mnweni is one of the areas less explored and hiked and certainly not photographed enough. It is a gold pot of photos, but photography is only a small part of experiencing, exploring, the mountains. You have to accept what the Dragon gives to you and on this occasion, despite very harsh conditions for the first 4 days, this magical afternoon had me running to the verious spots I have allocated. Running around like a headless chicken hoping that Im excersing the right options for the light was great :) It really does become a guessing game and from the glorius 180 rainbow that arched seemingly over our little tent... on and off showers to get this shot it was just magic. The next morning I was up early and was again presented with a special sunrise.
As I type this in the office, I know this same river is flowing undisturbed, the sun is baking on the basalt rock cliffs, the clouds roll in as it did over all the centuries. It does not know, it does not care, it does not bother with my concerns. My concerns however becomes void when I consider this
Psa 19:1 The heavens are declaring the glory of God, and their expanse shows the work of his hands.
Psa 19:2 Day after day they pour forth speech, night after night they reveal knowledge.
Psa 19:3 There is no speech nor are there words—their voice is not heard—
Psa 19:4 yet their message goes out into all the world, and their words to the ends of the earth. He has set up a tent for the sun in the heavens,
Psa 19:5 which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, or like a champion who rejoices at the beginning of a race.
Psa 19:6 Its circuit is from one end of the sky to the other, and nothing is hidden from its heat.
We as humans have indeed become a very arrogant being if we cannot acknowledge the speach of nature in declaring THE creator. Unforuntaley we are not only arrogant but we are ignorant fools as Romans 1 says it best
Rom 1:20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible attributes—his eternal power and divine nature—have been understood and observed by what he made, so that people are without excuse.
Rom 1:21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him. Instead, their thoughts turned to worthless things, and their senseless hearts were darkened.
Rom 1:22 Though claiming to be wise, they became fools

Regtig baie mooi Rian.
I think this could be used as instructional material on composition. The smooth flow pulls our eyes down the falls and then they circle back up that rock path into the rest of the picture to arrive at the pinnacle. Rinse. Repeat. It's quite amazing. Very well done.
Beautiful! Incredible framing, perfect shutter speed and exposure on the water. I see nothing wrong at all, and I would put this on my wall. Perfect 10, I think the first I've given on dpchallenge.
