This image is a composite of two photographs, a wide-angle landscape image taken at night under the Super-moon an a telephoto image of the moon. The details for the image pertain to the landscape image. The landscape image was taken at Theewaterskloof Dam, Villiersdorp, Western Cape, South Africa.
The original Moon (a completely blown-out oval) was replaced with a photo of the Moon taken just outside the back door of my flat with a Nikon AF 80-200mm f/2.8 at 200mm (ISO 100, f/8, 1/200) on 2011/03/20. Taken in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa (the location is irrelevant as the photo could have been taken anywhere). The replacement Moon photo was taken on 20 March 2011 (the night after the landscape photo).
RAW conversion of both images was done using Lightroom. Noise reduction and some dodging was done on the landscape photo. The moon was composited into the landscape image, replacing the original. A few stars were cloned/duplicated. Increase contrast, added a vignette to the bottom of the image, resize, sharpen and save for web. |
