There are quite a few peacocks and pea hens that live in the neighborhood down the road from me. I've tried shooting them before, but they tend to be skittish and hide from people with cameras. Or just people walking by, for that matter.

But this gent was doing his thing for the ladies. What a delight to witness in person! The shaking of the tail feathers in particular - nearly a shimmy and has a very distinctive sound as the feathers all shake against each other. He posed for a minute or two then folded his tail and jumped/flew up onto the roof.

It was starting to get dark - no flash, but the tail almost makes it look as though I used one.

One of the rare instances where I had "expectations" in a challenge. Thought I nailed the challenge topic and had a pretty darn good shot. It's not scoring horribly but I am a bit disappointed. Lesson here (which I find necessary to repeat every 6-8 months) - don't have expectations! :-)

This is SO cool, Deb. LOVE these crazy (loud) birds. You caught the iridescence of the feathers.

now thats a stunning capture, I can understand your limitations but it would have been even better had u captured the full arc of the feathers.

Actually rather humerous. Much better than a gnome; lovely creature.
