Melting ice cube ultramacro!

Same basic idea as this one, which I think I like better:

One 70-300 lens in macro mode (at 238mm, to be exact) with one reversed 50mm f/1.8 on the end. The result: lots of zoom, lots of room for camera shake, and an insanely narrow focal plane. ISO 200 was so I could get a slightly higher shutter speed; it seemed to help, since the movement from the shutter tended to produce noticeable motion blur in the image with a slow shutter.

I had to do some serious sharpening to make this work. High Pass is just fabulous for this sort of image.

Clean and clear with depth and sharpness. Great image. Fluid of some sort. Not a guess, but I like how the blurred bits in the background look like items pressing on a taught plastic sheet. Very cool.

Guess: A glass paperweight

Nice job getting layers into this photo. Gives a sense of depth which isn't always possible with this type of shot.

Pretty simplistic photo, but very very pretty. I like it a lot -- top 5 for me!

Very interesting abstract. My guess is water on glass with very shallow DoF but the shapes aren’t quite right. Perhaps this is an opaque window?
