 I took this photo this past summer on a train trip around Honshu, the main island of Japan. I had been to this castle once before, but this time I was pressed for time and was not sure if I would be able to see it.

The night before I took this, I was completely unable to find a hotel with any open rooms, so I did my best to sleep on the concrete floor at the train station. Unluckily (or luckily) I was unable to sleep, and at about 3:30 am I gave up and decided to walk to the castle, about a half hour away. I had no idea if the castle grounds would be open, but they were, and I set up my tripod and took several exposures from several angles. This is my favorite of the bunch and probably my favorite photo to date. I hope you like it! Comments are most welcome.

Thanks everyone! This is one of my first challenges on DPReview.

Just a couple comments about the photo:

This was taken in JPEG and was very minimally edited. I bumped the contrast, slightly shifted the blue, vignetted a bit, and sharpened, and that's about it. It was not cropped, not HDRd, no other tricks.

I took a couple shots in landscape (horizontal), but there is a park on one side and a city on the other, that I felt distracted too much from the main point of the image. I took several shots and this was the best one.
