 Saw this while hiking in the neighborhood. I returned three days in a row to take pictures of this insanely weird flower, which I'd never seen there before. A few days later it was gone. It's never bloomed again. Taken with my Coolpix 8700 in 2005.

Obviously these are alien beings pretending to be flowers - but you have called them out! :)

Seriously, I have no idea what kind of flower they are. They are beautiful and so unique! Thank you for sharing.
