 February 2011 Hidden Gems SC - Day 1

Maybe a gem, but not exactly hidden. I've actually processed this image before and it's in my portfolio...



but, I've never liked the original attempt at processing. And tried several times to process it at the time. Perhaps I've learned a little more about pp since then. I think I finally like this attempt.

This shot was taken in 2007 in North Carolina on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Something about the depth and darkness in one area of the woods as well as the fence keeping the woods contained spoke to me. But this is the first time that the pp has made me happy with the shot. This was shot with my old 4MP Olympus.

The painterly 'effect' softens the picture and so doing you feel the soft spring breeze that plays upon the leaves of the trees. This really invokes the feel and beauty of spring. Not sure I like the border with the painterly version - I rather like the feel of the freedom of a wide expanse of the woods without the enclosing border.

Agreed- the painterly effect really does work well for this. The blurring of the grass bottom left is a bit noticeable though, and seems a bit unnatural since the other grass has a bit of texture to it.
This is a minor issue though.

Nice rich colors. I like the painting look and also prefer this one above your other attempt.

I love the way the fence intertwines with the trees. Very fun processing almost looks like a painting.
