Reference to the old school method of producing a print. Dodging with a round card on a wire, as alluded to here would make the moon brighter, probably the opposite of what you would want when printing. Using a big card to shade the whole print, with a hole in it to allow more light in one area, would be used to allow more light to hit the printing paper around the moon, making it darker in the finished print.
