 Yes, I make my girl friend model for me. Desaturated and increased contrast slightly. No other modifications done.

This is fantastic. The lighting and b&w converstion is well done. It's just a personal preference, but I always like extreme composition with silly faces like this. Like creating a lot of negative space on the left side of the image. But that's just a preference and it's a nice shot either way. The D300 is really allowing you little grain at ISO 1250.
