As much as I liked this, I did expect the manner in which you used the DOF would hold it back with some voters. Got a 9 from me, however.

Very nice composition and choice of focal point. The light on the tree still brings our attention there instead of it just being an out of focus part of the shot. Good job, hope it does well overall!

to me this photo fills the brief perfectly The tree takes from the ground and grows up We are looking from the ground up. I like the shallow depth of field as it ads to the impression the we are tiny looking up

This is interesting. The shallow DOF gives the root a slimy look as the eye follows it toward the tree.

I keep staring at the tree, expecting it to become sharp any second now.
I appreciate what you were trying to do here, but I really think the entire tree needs to be in focus. This would have gotten top marks from me if it had. Gorgeous gorgeous lighting. 6

My eye is actually led away from the subject, which is the root. Either that or the main subject of the tree is OOF. Somehow, I find that actually works well for this scene. Giving this one a high vote.
