The overlay on this is an envelope from the Potter Hotel which in its day was one of the destinations in California. If you're curious, here's a link to a good article on its history.
The shot is from New Year's Day morning, 2009. So much for watching the sun come up.
Followed the link and was a nice stroll in history. Now knowing that information it adds to the additional flavor to the composition. The Potter Hotel overlay exists now just as a ghost in the fog of time. People pass as shadows but they are much more visible in contrast to the ghostly overlay of what once was. Is it the people or the building that is a ghostly memory? This composition has a many layered story to tell.
