Challenge: Portrait Triptych (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Canon EOS-7D
Lens: Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Autofocus Lens
Location: Oslo
Date: Nov 6, 2010
Aperture: 1.4
ISO: 800
Shutter: 1/30
Galleries: Portraiture, Diptych / Triptych
Date Uploaded: Nov 6, 2010

My friend and I had a coffee after a photo walk, and I took some snapshots of him in the cafe. The light there was really bad, and no matter how much I adjusted the white balance and colors I couldn't get the right tone, so I decided the pictures worked better in B/W than in color.

The focus came out a bit soft. I believe the lens front focuses slightly on my camera, and this gets very noticeable when I shoot on f1.4. Had I known I would go for B/W I would probably have bumped the aperture up a few steps and instead adjusted the ISO accordingly.

Korriban: I actually agree. I had a hard time coming up with an idea for a title, and as I was thinking about it I was talking with a friend on Skype who mentioned this quote from Buddha: "Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment". At the time I sort of liked the way it went with the three panels of the triptych, but after looking at it later I agree that it sort of forces the viewer into a certain way of thinking.

I always have a hard time coming up with titles for my pictures, and I am starting to understand why so many photographers are simply calling their pictures "unnamed" or "untitled" :)

I wonder if the title explains the votes of 1 and 2...

I liked the photos a lot until I read the title. I had a really good story that let me really connect until the title forced my view into a very tight box. So many of these photographs just give very unforgiving titles. Sometimes ambiguity goes a long way. I am still giving it the same number I would have before I read the title.

Really nice. I like the bottom two with one in shadow and one in the light.
