This is a close up of a back-lit glass of Dr Pepper with ice. The glass still exists, but the rest is gone. ;)

I shot something like this about a decade ago with an older point-and-shoot. I really liked the colors and detail I got with this kind of subject back then and figured I'd try to re-create the look for this challenge, since I have new gear and am actively trying to be more creative. After getting some shots of what I thought was my main goal, I experimented with other kinds of lighting with hand-held flashlights, moving them around with long exposures. I also took a bunch of shots looking down at an angle into the top of the glass. I was a bit surprised to find the whole thing slowly swirling for some of the longer extended exposure shots. I couldn't tell it was moving at all and originally wondered if I had bumped the table or tripod during exposure, until I figured out that the ice and drink were slowly rotating in the glass.

I originally submitted an image I liked late Friday night, but I was struggling with the title for it. I gave it one during submission, but I was never really happy with it. Then, when looking at my submission on DPC again, late Saturday night, I decided it looked really grainy and would try to improve it, if I could find time to do it. So, after getting up nice and late on Sunday, I started setting up for the shot. I took nearly another 100 exposures and came up with a few more that I liked, but this one really grabbed me when going thru the images, as the light seemed to explode out of the image. This immediately brought a title to mind. It might be a bit cliche, but I think it fits.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Wow, thought this would score higher. I was trying to figure out what the heck I was looking at, but couldn't figure it out. Nice shot though. The way the fire (light) radiates throughout things is really neat looking visually.
