Story behind it:
This airplane was in service of the US Navy in Iceland. It was flying with some supplies when the weather turned bad and they had to turn around. Then the weather closed the airport they came from. So they burned up their fuel and made a landing at Solheimasandur (sand) as the weather was good enough to land there. The plane was relatively undamaged after the landing but as these airplanes were going out of service they decided to leave it there and just take some parts of it back (the motors, instruments etc.). Decades later the tail was cut off and transported elsewhere in the country where another R4D which had been left was turned into a summer home. The wings were also cut off around the same time.

So monolithic. Beautiful with the grain, and I like that you metered against the sky. Nice.

Awesome horizontal lines! The shell of the plane works as a slight diagonal. Even though the fields horizon is approximately centered, it still works. The gritty B&W is very good with the subject here.

Such a symbol of our culture's disposable mentality. Just throw it out when it gets old. Doesn't matter where it lands. Stark and eloquent.
