On Curves, I took highlights and darks a tad down, lights quite a bit down, shadows a tad up.

In photoshop, selective usm on the penguin, increased saturation and upped the lightness in hue and sat. Increase contrast with curves adjustment. For background used blur and topaz simplyfy.
Finally a quick dodge on the eye ;)
