Challenge: Balance (Advanced Editing II)
Camera: Nikon D70
Location: my back yard

Aperture: F/25
ISO: 320
Shutter: 1/200

I screwnailed through the top of the ball and suspended it from the roof of the house. I then set up a tripod under the ball with grass and tee. I used a bounce flash off of the house. Some minor post editing to remove backgound clutter. The setup shot is in my portfolio for those who are interested.

The "Absolutely Straight" was purposely at an angle. I was going for the word play but as it turns out I probably should have gone for composition and aligned it with the tee. Live and learn.

Hello from the Critique Club!
......................................................

While I like this image I do remember wondering why this demonstrated balance particularly - and I also remember thinking that it would look more impressive to show the top of the ball. I had imagined that you had probably kept a finger on the ball (thus rendering the shot quite unimpressive) but I confess to being amazed at the extent of your set-up.

Technically, it is very well shot, richly coloured and beautifully focused, although this scored higher than I thought it would.

Personally, more grassy context at the base and the ball top would have made it for me, but since this was not on a golf course you made the best of it. The text on the ball was not a prominent enough feature for me to make it truly ironic, since it really doesn't matter in golf if the ball isn't cosmetically aligned on the tee!

Cheers
Jon

Pretty cool...

Would be a bit better if the "Absolutely Straight" were vertical vs. slightly off center.

The illusion is first class, the lighting superb and detail fantastic, that adds up to 10 in my book.

"Absolutely straight" ahahahahah funny. Love the composition, sharpness, colors, in my tops for sure. This looks like something Jacko would do. 9

Very, clean, sharp image. Wonder why the top of the ball isn't visable. Good job.

Very cool image. My only fault with it is the words "absolutly straight" are not absolutely straight vertically or horizontally. Otherwise, it seems very balanced.

Great photo. Certainly depicts "balance". However, as a fellow golfer, I doubt any ball is "absolutely straight".

Great composition & detail on this shot.
Appropriate title too.
Nicely done. ((8))

Good idea for the challenge, good DOF and white balance, the dimples in the ball are nice and clear.

A few things to maybe score higher... The green bits at the bottom are distracting and the Absolutely Straight text would have been nicer if it was actually straight... 8

Lighting, DOF, composition all great. Well done (9)

Was there no way to get the title of the ball absolutely horizontal?

Great. Just enough detail to deliver the message.

Great photo. The color, composition, focus, DOF, lighting is all superb. If the text "Absolutely Straight" had been centered above the tee, it would have made a much stronger impact. 9
