I saw the challenge as I happened to be repairing broken legs on an old chair. -- Why not?

Set up tripod, aimed, then triggered the camera via remote (in hand behind glue bottle).

Corrected color, tint, exposure, brightness, contrast, and applied graduated filter to darken both right and left edges.

Very nice take on the challenge. I would have liked a bit softer light. It feels like you used an on camera flash that is causing some bad reflections (especially in/around the eyes).

I like this portrait. It tells the story of the man very well. I just question why you have framed the man with him in the left third here.

This looks more candid than a portrait, which makes the subject look surprised or uncomfortable.

Can't say this more than that!
